Our Mission is to engage the community through collaborative efforts to help Domestic Violence Survivors, Foster Youth, Homeless, Low Income, and Youth At Risk acquire financial literacy and life skills. We provide the knowledge, resources, and tools which will enable them to establish control over their circumstances, improve their quality of life, and launch a more secure future.

Florida Master Money Mentors : University Of Florida Brought Their Master Money Mentor Training To All Purpose Lifeskills! All Purpose Lifeskills (APLS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage the community through collaborative efforts to help Domestic Violence Survivors, Foster Youth, Homeless, Low Income, and Youth At Risk acquire financial education and life skills. APLS provides the knowledge, resources, and tools which will enable participants to establish control over their circumstances, improve their quality of life, and launch a more secure future. We partner with various organizations in our community to strengthen the resources and knowledge for our participants– Children’s Services Council, Florida Prosperity Network, TTAP, Community Leadership Consulting, Community Foundation of Broward, Broward Wealth Building Coalition, Volunteer Broward, Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, Hope Outreach Center, Inc., and Second Chance Society. We also collaborate with community agencies to provide a comprehensive service that includes money management. APLS arranges for a proven curriculum to be presented to participants by a local business professional. We coordinate the venue, including set up and break down of presentation, preparation of participant handouts, measure the effectiveness of the forums, and provide one on one or small group workshops following each forum. The University of Florida came to All Purpose Lifeskills to provide training for volunteers through their Master Money Mentor training from February 1-3, 2011 from 9 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Mentors will received approximately 20 hours of intensive training in basic money management, strategies for dealing with financial problems, credit and debt management, savings, mentoring techniques, and connecting to community resources. Following the training, each volunteer will provide financial mentoring at least twice per month for one year. With this training, you can become a member of a working team providing valuable services to individual and families in the community! You will receive up-to-date training and materials on financial management for personal use, while learning financial management and coaching skills. This is a great way to gain volunteer work experience and if you complete the entire training, you will be certified as a Master Money Mentor and you can gain 2 continuing education units (CEU’s) for a minimal CEU fee of $15. We would love for you to join us and become a Master Money Mentor for All Purpose Lifeskills’. Something Funny About Money 2011 : All Purpose Lifeskills Partnership Council hosted a Community Outreach Event called “Something Funny About Money” kindly sponsored by and held at At the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, 5550 NW 40th Street, Coconut Creek FL 33073 on January 22, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. There was Socializing, Networking, & Cruising For Community Resources! A treasure hunt for knowledge! Guests took this opportunity to find the correct answers about community agencies & resources to enter into a raffle for 2 cruise tickets with Discovery Bahamas!* Then local comedians performed for Something Funny About Money! The guests had a laugh, a cry, a giggle, and a faint or two as they were entertained by local talent, who are kindly donating their time & skills- Eric Yankwitt, Glen McCormick, Tom Albaugh, Artist Treece, and Surprise Guests! We truly appreciate this opportunity and we pleased to hear the feedback! People, get your seat belts fastened! Everyone appears to be willing and able to do this again! Whoo Hooo!

Foster Youth Professional Reception 2010 : Foster Youth Professional Reception 2010 This event was inspired by the young ladies who participated in an All Purpose Lifeskills Forum Series. This event was their reward for attending, actively participating in the forums by introducing the presenters, working in the group activities, completing assignments, and presenting certificates and writing thank-you notes to our facilitators. This event was their opportunity to thank all the volunteers and staff who made the forum series a success and to speak to professionals who are currently working in a career they are interested in learning more about. The young ladies received their certificates of completion and were made aware of how many community members are very proud of them and are willing to provide support to them. A very powerful message. Thank you all for making this heard so clearly! Self Esteem Forum : All Purpose Lifeskills is delighted to be collaborating to provide financial literacy and life skills to the foster youth in the Maternity Residence at Children's Harbor. You will not see pictures of the foster youth to ensure their confidentiality. One can imagine, if this is the reaction the volunteers are having- how are the young adults reacting? Information on the Collaborating Agency: Children's Harbor is a 501(c)(3) child welfare organization founded in 1996 in cooperation with the City of Pembroke Pines. The Agency provides residential services for foster children in a family-style setting, and community based services for the prevention and intervention of abuse and neglect. Our Family Strengthening Program provides in-home therapy and case management to families assessed for abuse and neglect; Our Residential Program includes 4 Sibling Group Foster Homes and a Foster Teen Maternity Residence. The goal of the sibling home is to allow brothers and sisters to remain together; the Foster Maternity Home is the only home of this type in Broward County and provides a loving home to pregnant or parenting foster teens and their babies. Broward Wealth Building Coalition : As an agency who collaborates by providing a supplemental financial literacy and life skills trainings to other nonprofit agencies’ clients, we have discovered that there are various levels of collaboration success. Today, 8/15/2009, was the most successful yet. We delivered services to the Broward Wealth Building Coalition’s IDA participants. The program is brilliant. The IDA Program or Individual Development Account Program targets low income working individuals and families. The program is Federal Government program. The eligible participants attend educational classes, depending on their goal choice of home ownership, starting or expanding a small business, or education. With the assistance of the Urban League, the participants open a savings account with a participating bank. They create a plan to successfully save up to $2,000. This savings will be matched by the Federal Government and another source {usually the participating bank} for a total match of $4,000. OK, who is doing their math? At the end of the program the participants will have $6,000 in savings. The education they receive will guide them to using the savings wisely. How cool is that? You can learn more by going to the Urban League of Broward’s website. The agencies responsible for today’s great success: America Debt Counseling, Urban League of Broward, and All Purpose Lifeskills. Explore their website to learn more! As a team, the IDA participants took part in the Credit Card Forum (Module 6), getting the knowledge they need to succeed. This group of participants were truly engaged and interested. They were willing to share the knowledge they have, which increased the success of the forum. The questions they asked were thoughtful and really clarified information regarding credit cards. With the support, their courage, and their determination they will be successful pursuing their dreams! True Appreciation : All Purpose Lifeskills is collaborating with Keystone Halls to deliver a financial literacy and life skills forum series. Keystone Halls' mission is to convert a practicing addict and alcoholic into a productive member of society. In order for our residents to make and maintain this transition, they must get clean and sober, have mental and physical health and become employed at a trade which enhances their self esteem. Keystone Halls, Inc. provides services to our clients without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, nationality or sexual orientation. We believe in the disease concept of alcoholism and drug addiction; Further, we believe that treatment is possible for anyone. By following these tenets of recovery, and by encouraging our residents to participate actively in a 12-step recovery program, we have helped a substantial number of our clients to become happy and productive members of society. THOM Florida Community Support Organization Thanksgiving Event : Thanksgiving Holiday Orphan Meals organized by the Florida Community Support Organization successfully provided 7,500 meals to 30 locations simultaneously. This was a wonderful day to celebrate with your neighbors. We have a lot to be thankful for in life. Many of us have family that live outside of our immediate area and for one reason or another we will not be able to spend time with them this holiday. APLS volunteers joined many others in your area in a FREE holiday meal and allow people to begin to get to know one another in our community. A wonderful event organized by Eric Yankwitt & The Florida Community Support Organization. Lit Up Lauderdale 2010 : This year for The Light Up Lauderdale Event on November 26th, they were looking to have 5-10,000 people line the shores of The New River, located in Fort Lauderdale. If you missed the event- the lights are still up and there are many exciting happenings to explore- learn more at http://www.goriverwalk.com/ ! There were cocktails and food available for purchase as they lit up the holiday decorations along the New River where $50,000 worth of lights will glow that very evening in the holiday spirit. This event is produced by The City of Fort Lauderdale and The Riverwalk Trust. The Vice Mayor was there to throw the switch at 6:00 sharp. Red Bull dropped their "Holiday Skydiver" from the sky to land in Esplanade Park at 5:45. This was spectacular and heart stopping! Santa was in attendance! There were Family fun rides, as well as a wonderful Band and MC. As a courtesy Chamber non-profits, The City of Fort Lauderdale and The Riverwalk Trust invited all non profits that would like to set up a table to gain exposure for their charity to display at the event! This was a wonderful opportunity and All Purpose Lifeskills was delighted to be involved!
